I have worked in the public health sector and non-government sector providing counselling to a wide variety of clients from different cultural backgrounds. I feel that each client is unique and important. Therefore, a treatment plan is tailored to each individual's needs whether it be for short or long term counselling. This is done in collaboration with the client in order to maximise the best possible outcomes from treatment. It is hoped that being able to communicate in a non-judgmental and relaxed environment, will provide the conditions needed to bring about exploration and positive improvement.
My cultural origin is Chinese. However, I was born in Australia and my primary and preferred language is English. I have a reasonable understanding of spoken colloquial Cantonese. I may also appeal to those clients who would prefer someone more mature, having raised my family before embarking on a career. My main areas of interest are in anxiety disorders and impulsive behaviours (specifically problem gambling). Other areas of interest include: depression, stress management, life changes, grief and loss, relaxation and couples therapy.
I continue to participate in ongoing professional development and currently have an interest in hypnotherapy as an adjunct to psychotherapy for treating physiological and emotional symptoms by creating a pleasant state of relaxtion.
My role as a Psychologist is to be able to assist clients on their path of healing and create a sense of positive wellbeing through a holistic approach which involves empowering the client through self reflection and acquisition of skills and strategies.
