JENNY MORABITO

I am a registered psychologist and a member of the Australian Psychological Society - the society regulates membership by demanding certain qualifications, supervised experience and evidence of ongoing training. In addition to my formal qualifications, I have undertaken training in a variety of counselling approaches and continue to do so. I believe this is important, as counselling, like any other field grows and changes over time.

I have worked with children, adolescents and adults on a range of different issues including depression, anxiety and trauma. I currently work part time at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital supporting people coping with chronic illness. I am experienced in group work, and have facilitated a number of groups covering self esteem, protective behaviours, anxiety, depression and living with domestic violence. I am also experienced in undertaking assessment and psychometric testing.

There are various influences on my work and I employ a number of different approaches to working with clients, understanding that not one form of therapy works for everyone. These include cognitive behavioural therapy, solution focused and narrative approaches as well as art and play therapy to name a few.

I have a collaborative approach to treatment and aim to provide a trusting, safe and non judgmental therapeutic environment. I believe that together with the client goals for change can be identified and a treatment plan implemented to achieve those goals. Strategies and skills for ongoing health and wellbeing will be a vital part of all treatment plans.

I am very committed and passionate about working with children and young people, respecting their rights as individuals and supporting them in creating change, building resilience, fulfilling potential and developing into healthy and happy adults. I have a great deal of experience in working with children and young people to address issues such as anxiety, self esteem, family separations, managing stress and anger, grief and loss, bullying, making friends and social skills.

The support of parents is also a very important part of my work with children. I believe that in collaboration we can achieve healthy changes and development for children. I offer and am very experienced in parent education and can provide one on one or group sessions on behaviour guidance and working collaboratively to address challenging behaviours.
