Krystyna Kidson
As a registered psychologist, Krystyna sees herself as a facilitator. Her clients are on a journey, and sometimes the journey becomes difficult - when that happens, she asks her clients' permission to walk alongside for a while, to show them how they can maximise their strengths, and enhance their skills in dealing with life's storms.
The following quote is a good metaphor for Krystyna's relational approach to life: "By yourself you can be overpowered. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded cord isn't easily snapped" (Ecclesiastes 4:12).
Krystyna is a good listener. She can be trusted to respond to her clients with compassion, understanding and respect, without judging, and tailor a treatment plan to their specific requirements. Her clients have described her as very caring, warm and empathic, and have valued her wisdom.
She trained through an undergraduate honours degree in psychology from the University of Western Sydney, and a Masters of Psychology (Clinical) degree from the University of New South Wales. She is skilled in various counselling, cognitive and behavioural therapies, and in their application to mild to severe problems across a wide range of areas.
Before beginning work in private practice, Krystyna was working with a cutting-edge research unit that specialised in treating childhood behaviour problems. Many of her clients were children who refused to comply with basic requests, were verbally and physically aggressive, and threw temper tantrums whenever their will was thwarted. For their parents, it was like living in a battle zone. Krystyna helped parents fine-tune their management strategies, regaining control over their children's behaviour. Children showing marked levels of oppositional and noncompliant behaviour before treatment radically changed following their parents' consistent implementation of these strategies.
Krystyna has worked with children, adolescents and adults, dealing with a range of difficulties. From anxiety to attention-deficit-hyperactivity disorder; adjustment difficulties to depression (including bipolar disorder, formerly known as manic depression); persistent pain to parenting issues; to stress, self-harm and suicide ideation; Krystyna can assist you, your adolescent or your child in working through these issues so that life has more meaning and purpose.
